The new LG Optimus 3D sees the manufacturer attempt to replicate home entertainment developments on a mobile device. Following on from the now fairly standard high definition quality, this latest model sees the incorporation of 3D, which impresses along with the other excellent features on offer.

One of the reasons why the LG Optimus 3D handles the power hungry 3D facilities so well is that it offers a large capacity processor that easily handles such tasks. At 1Ghz, the size of the chip is comparable to other high end handsets such as the LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2, and it is also similar to these in that the processor is also dual core. This enables the phone to easily handle multi tasking functions, meaning you can perform a task on the phone whilst another function is running in the background, meaning the speed of the phone in general use is exceptionally fast.

Another pleasing aspect of this model is that it runs on the popular Android operating system. Here the 2.2 version is present, however the phone will have an update made available to allow it to support 2.3 to catch up with phones like the HTC Desire S and forthcoming HTC Evo 3D. This gives users the familiar multiple homescreen layout as well as access to thousands of downloads. With no slide out keypad, the onscreen variety is used for writing messages, and both the vertical and landscape versions are well spaced out and responsive. Looking around the phones body, and around the edges you will find various ports including a 3.5mm headphone jack, a micro USB and a handy HDMI which enables simple connection to a television.

The real talking point about the LG Optimus 3D is its 3D facilities, which make the phone literally stand out amongst its competitors. The screen on this particular model uses a similar technology to the new Nintendo 3DS gaming machine, meaning glasses are not needed to achieve the three dimensional effect. This works effectively, with the 4.3″ screen allowing enough room for such images to achieve the desired results, HTC’s Evo 3D is yet to makes it’s UK début but looks to easily rival LG’s offering.

Ignoring 3D for a second, the screen boasts a resolution of 480 x 800 meaning all manner of material looks superb. In terms of material to view in 3D, the Optimus boasts dual cameras which together produce 3D video footage at 720P HD in each lens. Should you require the standard 2D film, resolution is upped to the excellent 1080P full HD standard. YouTube 3D is also present on the interface, giving you the perfect place to view and share relevant footage.

The Lg Optimus 3D will no doubt win many fans thanks to the cutting edge technology on offer, yet putting this to one side you are still left with a Smartphone capable of competing with the very best available.
